Harmonia by Close2You [Review]
This post is found in Review and was posted on November 30, 2010 at 10:30 pm.Oh wow, it’s my first sex toy review (please be gentle with me?). After my miserable time with the first sex toy that I ever used (a jelly vibrator that had mold growing on it, ew), I was on the search for my next toy. I wanted something that vibrated, I wasn’t well versed in the world of non-vibrating toys (and still am not) and just wanted something that vibrated and wouldn’t have mold growing on it and (preferably) used easy-to-find batteries. After reading some reviews over at Eden Fantasys, I decided on the Harmonia by Close2You. I bought mine in their Limone colour (a great limey green) over at Eden Fantasys (this is not a sponsored review).

Quick Summary
Material: Silicone (phthalates free, non-porous, food-grade material & latex free)
Batteries: AAA-2 (1 pair is included)
Functions: Vibrates (varying intensities) and has patterns
Shape: Curved, slight bulbous head – good for g-spot and clitoral stimulation
Other: Waterproof, great presentation (packaging), nice extras that made me think that it was like a full “starter kit” for someone who’s pretty new to using sex toys

Packaging
The toy came in this really cute box, but it’s not particularly discreet. The front flap of the box has a light black-and-white image of a couple and then there’s the toy and the name of the product (Harmonia). It has a flap that opens up to reveal the toy through a plastic window, the toy is nestled in a foam-form. The flap is held shut by little magnets, which I thought was nice. The side of the box reveals that there’s two little pull-out drawers. The toy drawer is labeled “Harmonia” and the second is labeled “Accessori”. For those that care, the Harmonia is “designed and developed in Germany” while it was “made and assembled in PRC” [People's Republic of China]. The back of the box lists information in 10 languages (German, English, French, Italian, Spanish, Dutch, Danish, Russian, Polish and Portuguese) about the toy. In English, the back of the box says that the toy is:
The anatomic design and gentle vibration of this “G-spot”-vibrator pampers HER and HIM to surrendering ecstasy.
What really made me smile was that, near the bottom of the box, it states that the Harmonia is “Sold as a novelty only!”.
What you get
Along with the cute box, you get the toy itself, a pair of AAA batteries, a stretchy silicone cock ring (purple), a 7.5ml sample of Glissando (Close2You’s water-based lubricant) that comes in a little tube that can be closed, a sample toy cleansing wipe (includes aloe vera) (also made by Close2You), a purple velvet drawstring storage bag and a multi-language instruction manual which also serves as a product guide for some of Close2You’s other products/toys.
What I really like about the manual is that it goes over cleaning, battery disposal (i.e. not in the regular trash!), how to store the toy and what not to do with it (i.e. do not freeze, do not heat) and that if you’re going to dispose of the packaging, you should recycle (yay for encouragement to help save the planet!). Everything fits neatly back into the drawers and it’s great for storage.

Thoughts on design and use
I really like the Harmonia is the feel of the toy when I pulled it out was just this feeling of nice and soft silicone with a hard plastic battery cover. I did give it a quick wash with soap and water before using. The battery compartment is easy to twist open and pop in the two AAA batteries. There is a black gasket to prevent water from getting into the toy – I have used this in the shower and submerged the toy to test it out, no water ended up getting into the battery compartment. However, it only takes a really small twist of the battery cap to open it up, so you do have to be sure that you’ve got it on properly.
Close2You’s logo is raised and near the end of the base. The narrowest portion of the shaft is just a little over 2cm (close to 1″) in diameter while the bulbous head is close to 3.5cm (1.4″) in diameter. The total length of the Harmonia is 8 ¾” with about 6 ½” insertable. The narrowest portion of the shaft is the most flexible, you can bend it nearly 90°.

There are two buttons on this toy – one is a dedicated on-off button and the other lets you cycle through the vibrations/patterns. There’s a total of 8 modes to cycle through:
- Lowest vibration setting (steady vibrations, no pulsing)
- Medium vibration setting (steady vibrations, no pulsing)
- Highest vibration setting (steady vibrations, no pulsing)
- Escalating vibrations from very low to high, then a pause before it goes from very low to high again.
- Highest vibration setting, pauses between each pulse.
- Escalating vibrations (distinct changes in vibration, not a steady escalation), followed by a pause then three high vibration pulses.
- Quick pulsing vibrations (highest vibration setting) followed by a period of the highest vibration setting with no pulsing.
- At the highest vibration setting: a long steady vibration, pause, shorter steady vibration, pause, four quick vibrations.
I didn’t find the toy to be particularly loud at all, it was quiet enough that it didn’t attract attention and the use of a blanket is plenty to muffle out any sounds that it does make. I mainly use the medium or highest vibration settings, I do use the little patterns on occasion, but not very often. This toy works great for g-spot stimulation (which is what it is designed for), but I also love it for clitoral stimulation and just general play. Because there’s a variation of vibration intensities, I feel that you could probably find something that you like here. You can also bend the toy while it’s in you, this works great for getting some vibrations onto your clit as well, I found that this took too much concentration on my part (heh), but it’s great for couple-play, if you want to get into that.
The manual by Close2You does mention that you can use of this toy anally. I haven’t tried it, but if you do choose to use it anally, you do have sterilize it between partners or orifices and you should be very careful as there is no flared base and you don’t want to have to go to the emergency room seeking a doctor to help you remove it from your rear.
I haven’t had the need to use lubricant since I’ve gotten the Harmonia – even though it does come with a water-based lubricant sample. Because it is silicone, you cannot use silicone-based lubricant with this toy! Water-based and oil-based lubricants are perfectly okay to use with it, but not silicone-based lubes (you’ll damage your toy).
Thoughts on care, cleaning, storing
The Harmonia is fairly easy to take care of – I clean mine with warm water and soap. The book also suggests using toy cleansing wipes (like the one included in the box), any toy cleaner or just soap and water. You can also use bleach to clean it, but you can’t boil it to sterilize because of the fact it has a motor. The book also suggests removing the batteries when not in use (which I do), I keep the batteries in a small baggie in the box with the toy.
One thing the manual also mentioned is that it is not a good idea to store silicone toys together, if you are going to store a bunch of silicone toys together, I’d suggest putting them all in their own bags (either plastic bags or the accompanied drawstring bag).
Because the Harmonia is made of silicone, it does attract dust or little hairs pretty easily. I made the mistake of dropping it onto my carpet the day before I vacuumed and it was like a hair-and-dust magnet. A quick rinse under the faucet fixed that pretty quick though.
Last thoughts
I would definitely recommend the Harmonia if you’re looking for a new vibrator. It’s made of excellent material and it’s super easy to use with a great instruction manual that goes over everything that you need to know about this toy – plus it comes with a lot of great, quality extras that aren’t just something that you would look at and then toss.
If you’re interested in the Harmonia, you can find it over at Eden Fantasys (they have it in the same lime green that I own as well as a great looking bright pink!) and if you put in GAR as a coupon code when checking out, you’ll get a 15% discount on your entire purchase order (free shipping for US orders over $59).
